FYE Course

If the learning objectives for your FYE / freshman seminar course include preparing students for group projects, collaborative classroom pedagogy, developing inclusive behaviors, diversity education, and/or developing strong student bonds, then Exploring Teamwork Essentials will effectively complement your current curriculum.

If you not wish to emphasize teamwork skills or diversity education, then My View still addresses the remaining objectives.

Because these programs allow students to practice articulating views in front of each other, and illuminate many similarities, they reduce the fear of looking stupid or wrong. FYE could then serve as a "lab" for developing collaborative classroom skills.

Both My View and ETE require two 50-minute class periods; the film can be watched and reactions gained in one 50-minute class; the small group discussion exercise and processing in the next class.

One customer chose to have students complete the bonding / skill building exercise many times over the course of the semester, investing 10 minutes each class period. By rotating students in groups, they maximized the opportunity for student bonds and friendships to develop.

"Exploring Teamwork Essentials effectively meets students where they are developmentally. They truly engage to share often very deep answers to great questions. I also like how its implementation is prescriptive yet flexible. Our University 1010 course instructors could adapt it to their needs, interests, and level of experience. This program sets a great foundation for students to appreciate differences, suspend judgment, and participate in the college classroom.”
