Orientation

The culture shock of adjusting to college is usually met with anxiety. My View is an anxiety reducer. It can complement your existing assimilation programs, offering a highly unique film and student-empowered discussion exercise.

My View positively connects students and creates a forum for sharing. Students realize the often-hidden reality that everyone feels, thinks, and believes a lot the same things - including not yet knowing exactly what they want to do in and after college. They develop this realization by safely sharing with each other. For these reasons we believe My View can become a powerful addition to your orientation line-up.

One option:

  1. Mail the My View booklet to students during the summer. You'll demonstrate your institution's commitment to interpersonal skill development and diversity.
  2. When students arrive on campus for orientation they are shown the film. Large groups work fine.
  3. Then, your orientation leads or other staff could facilitate the small group discussion and processing component. One way to train them is to incorporate either My View or Exploring Teamwork Essentials into orientation leader training.
  4. Assuming My View is not a Res Life program, supply residence advisors with the discussion materials so students can continue the "game-like" bonding / skill development exercise independently throughout the year.
